What You Need to Know

Rhododendrons are in the same plant family as azaleas and contain identical grayanotoxin compounds. They are large common garden shrubs making accidental exposure frequent. The toxin is present in every part of the plant including the nectar — honey produced from rhododendron flowers (known as mad honey) is also toxic. Never plant rhododendrons in gardens accessible to dogs and never allow dogs near them.
