About SafeFoodForDogs
Built by a dog owner. Reviewed by veterinarians. Free for every dog owner, forever.
The Story
It started with a late-night panic. My dog had gotten into some grapes I'd left on the counter, and I had no idea whether to rush to the emergency vet or wait it out. A frantic Google search returned a flood of contradictory blog posts, forum opinions, and articles that buried the actual answer behind ads and fluff.
That night, I decided to build the resource I wished had existed: a clean, fast, trustworthy tool that gives dog owners a straight answer about any food — safe, caution, or avoid — backed by real veterinary knowledge.
SafeFoodForDogs launched with a simple promise: every guide would be vet-reviewed, evidence-based, and free to access. No paywalls. No misleading affiliate clickbait buried in the answers. Just the information you need to keep your dog safe.
Vet-Reviewed
Every food guide is reviewed by a licensed veterinarian before publication. We don't publish safety claims we can't verify.
Evidence-Based
Our guides draw from peer-reviewed veterinary literature, ASPCA Animal Poison Control data, and established clinical guidelines.
Always Free
Dog safety information should be accessible to every pet owner. SafeFoodForDogs will always be free to use.
What We Cover
SafeFoodForDogs covers hundreds of human foods across every major category — fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains, dairy, nuts, seeds, condiments, sweets, beverages, herbs, and spices.
For each food, we provide a clear safety status (safe, caution, or avoid), a plain-language summary, detailed explanations of any risks or benefits, symptom guidance for toxic foods, and notes for puppies, seniors, and specific breeds where relevant.
We also publish longer-form guides on dog nutrition, safety topics, and owner education in the Guides section.
