What You Need to Know

Oyster sauce is used as a flavoring in Asian cuisine and contains extremely concentrated sodium — often 400-500mg per tablespoon. Dogs have very low sodium tolerance. Many commercial oyster sauce varieties also contain garlic or onion powder as seasoning. The combination of extreme sodium and Allium ingredients makes oyster sauce dangerous even in small amounts used during cooking.
