What You Need to Know

Guacamole combines avocado (persin toxicity) with onion and garlic (Allium toxicity) and often additional seasonings making it one of the more harmful dips dogs can access. The persin toxicity of avocado flesh in dogs is debated — it is mainly a serious concern for birds and livestock — but the addition of onion and garlic in standard guacamole recipes creates clear Allium toxicity. The high fat content from avocado creates pancreatitis risk. Never give dogs guacamole or allow access to guacamole bowls.
