Did you know?

Pepperoni is an American invention despite its Italian-sounding name — it was created in New York by Italian-American immigrants in the early 20th century. The word pepperoni comes from peperoni the Italian word for bell peppers — not the cured meat. The spicy cured meat called pepperoni does not exist in Italy where it would be called salame piccante. American pepperoni contains garlic powder paprika and fennel as standard ingredients — the garlic content alone makes it consistently toxic to dogs regardless of the spice level.
