Key warning: all lemon juice — concentrated and diluted both problematic

Can Dogs Drink Lemon Juice? No — Concentrated Acid and Psoralen

This food is NOT safe for dogs. Keep it away from your pet.

Lemon juice is not safe for dogs. Concentrated lemon acid causes immediate severe digestive upset. It also concentrates psoralen compounds from the lemon. Never give dogs lemon juice in any amount intentionally.

Warning Signs & Symptoms

Concentrated acidity: immediate vomiting and severe digestive upset. Concentrated psoralen: photosensitivity. Even diluted: too acidic for dogs. Lemon water: not safe.

What to Avoid

all lemon juice — concentrated and diluted both problematic

Preparation & Serving

Monitor for vomiting and mouth irritation. Offer water. Call vet if large amount consumed.

Did you know?

Lemon juice has a pH of approximately 2-3 making it one of the most acidic common food liquids. For reference battery acid has a pH of 0 and stomach acid has a pH of 1.5-2. The extreme acidity of lemon juice means it actually functions as a preservative — the low pH prevents bacterial growth. This is why lemon juice is used to prevent cut fruit from browning and why preserved lemons in salt and lemon juice last for months without refrigeration. For dogs this same extreme acidity causes immediate irritation.

What You Need to Know

Lemon juice is simply concentrated lemon — the same toxicity concerns apply but in more concentrated form. The acidity of lemon juice (pH 2-3) causes immediate irritation of the mouth esophagus and stomach. Diluting in water reduces but does not eliminate the concern. Never add lemon juice to dog food or water.
