What You Need to Know

Plain unsalted pumpkin seeds — pepitas — are nutritious and have an interesting additional benefit: cucurbitin in pumpkin seeds has documented anti-parasitic properties including against tapeworms and roundworms. Some holistic veterinarians recommend ground pumpkin seeds as a natural deworming supplement though they are not a substitute for veterinary-prescribed dewormers. Shelled pumpkin seeds (pepitas) are easier to digest than seeds with shells. Plain raw or lightly roasted without salt.
