Did you know?
Flounder undergo one of the most dramatic physical transformations in the animal kingdom. They hatch as normal symmetrical fish with eyes on both sides of the head but as juveniles one eye migrates to join the other on one side of the body. The fish then spends its adult life lying flat on the ocean floor with both eyes looking upward. The direction the eyes migrate determines whether it is a left-eyed or right-eyed flounder. The camouflage ability of flounder is remarkable — they can change color and texture to match nearly any substrate.
